Benefits of our Christian funeral service
Our Christian funeral service allows you to concentrate on the soul of the departed without having to worry about any of the practicalities of the funeral arrangements.
Whatever your denomination, we’ll ensure the funeral conforms to the beliefs and customs of your particular Christian faith, with the dignity and solemnity your loved one deserves.
Our Christian funeral service allows for full involvement by family and friends of the deceased, including:
- Acting as pallbearers.
- Offering eulogies.
- Sending floral tributes.
- Taking part in a post-funeral memorial service.
Cremation service expertise
Cremation has become more commonplace for Christian funerals in Singapore, but traditionalists may be unsure about the process – opposed by the faith for many years.
As Singaporean funeral directors of long standing, we’re used to making arrangements for cremations and working with the government-run Mandai Crematorium.
We empathise with the ordeal you and your family are going through. Thus, we will help ease your burden by providing impeccable funeral services.
Comprehensive Christian funeral services
Empathy provides an extensive Christian funeral package centred on the departed’s entry into heaven and God’s compassion in consoling those left behind.
We offer a full suite of Christian funeral services, including funeral pre-planning, cremation or burial, and post-funeral support.
We take care of everything you need for a Christian funeral, including:
- Collection of the deceased.
- Embalming, dressing and cosmetising.
- Casketing.
- Wake arrangements.
- Funeral backdrop set-up.
- Committal – burial or cremation.
- Collection of ashes.
- Post-service reception.
- Post-funeral support such as organising memorial services.
Christian funeral ritual
Christian funeral rites
Christian funeral rites are steeped in history and grounded in the belief of resurrection and heaven. They often take the form of:
- Offering prayers for the soul of the deceased.
- Singing hymns.
- Reading eulogies.
- Bible readings.
Rites like these are aimed at helping the living to accept the reality of death as they express their grief.
Christian funeral rituals are often observed at wakes, committals and memorial services.
Christian wakes
A wake is held before a Christian funeral so friends and family can console one another while honouring the memory of the deceased in a less formal atmosphere. Wakes ahead of a Christian funeral service in Singapore often take place in the HDB communal area where the deceased lived.
Christian committal
The committal proceedings surrounding burial (interment) or cremation play a major role in Christianity. Burial is accompanied by ecclesiastical rites and typically takes place in consecrated ground, while the ashes from cremation are usually interred in a churchyard or other burial ground.
Christian memorial services
Christians hold a memorial service to bring together friends and family in support of one another and in remembrance of the deceased. These services can be held weeks or months after the funeral. Like a wake, a memorial service is primarily a celebration of the life of the departed.
What non-Christians need to know about attending a Christian funeral
Non-Christians attending a Christian funeral are expected to respect Christian beliefs and customs.
Although much of the service is spent in quiet contemplation or listening to the priest or minister, the congregation is encouraged to join in with communal praying and singing of hymns.
Dress code for a Christian funeral is dark-coloured clothing, ideally black. In some Christian denominations, it’s traditional for women to wear a head covering.
Some families may ask for donations to charity instead of floral tributes.
